NVidia hints at x86 interest
NVidia has lately been rumoured of being interested in companies such as VIA for their knowledge in making x86 CPUs. But no word on the matter had come out from the company's representatives until yesterday.
During a Q/A session part of the Morgan Stanley Technology Conference which took place in San Francisco on March 3, Michael Hara, NVidia's VP of Investor Relations dropped some words suggesting the company is interested in developing x86 CPUs.
However, as Bit-Tech's Ben Hardwidge points out, Hara made it clear that the main target would be the portable devices market :
“If you look at the high-end of the PC market I think it’s going to stay fairly discrete, because that seems to be the best of all worlds,” Hara said.
During the last two years, Nvidia and Intel, which is the leader in x86 chips have declared a public war and it appears both companies take the portable devices market very seriously.
